Music Therapist - Board Certified

Laura is thrilled to be joining the Mewsic Moves team! She just moved to Venice, California from the suburban Atlanta area where she has lived most of her life. Laura earned her Bachelor of Music degree with a major in Music Therapy and a minor in Psychology from Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts. She completed her 6 month clinical internship at a pediatric therapy clinic in Georgia where she continued work as an employee post-internship for 2 years after completing her Board-Certification for Music Therapy. 

Beginning piano lessons at the age of 5, music has long since played a prominent role in Laura’s life. As she grew with her love of piano, then came a love for singing and dancing, steering her towards a childhood filled with recitals, rock band concerts, and endless musical theater productions. Laura’s passion for music therapy began in high school when she started becoming more involved with volunteering in her local neurodivergent community. She witnessed first hand the impact that music therapy can have. With the combination of Laura’s passion for music and constant draw to helping others, music therapy made itself her undeniable path in life. 

In her prior work experience, she has worked closely alongside teams of Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapists while working individually with children and young adults with varying diagnoses and disabilities. In addition to working with individuals, Laura also gained experience leading group music therapy sessions for memory care, assisted living, mommy & me music classes, playgroups, adults with intellectual disabilities, and various special education school settings.

Laura believes there is innate musicality in every individual. Tapping into that innate sense stimulates the  bridging of neural connections which can lead to incredible outcomes. Therapeutic musical interaction creates a fun, empowering, and safe space to harness progress in its purest form. Laura feels very honored and privileged to be able to facilitate these experiences for families, and looks forward to working with yours!
